Out of Towners.

Finally, after some on-again off-again weather it’s officially Summer in New York City… Most New Yorker’s here native & adopted a-like have a love/hate relationship with Summer. We like the weather, just not when were sardined into a sweaty subway car commuting to work or trapped between towering buildings with no air flow accompanied by the beautiful smell of warm trash.

ENTER STAGE LEFT -> The Weekend Getaway, an integral part of surviving & thriving in NYC Summer. With it being my boyfriend’s first Summer here with me in the city, to say I’m excited to explore together is a bit of an understatement! My absolute favourite thing in the world is going on careless adventures with him, big trips or little – it doesn’t really matter…

We decided this past weekend to go with the traffic flow of most New Yorker’s at the weekend and drive about 2 hours outside of NYC to the area on the far side of Long Island reputably known as The Hamptons. Packing was easy because I basically just brought all the Summer essentials I needed from Accessorize! They recently asked me to choose some clothing & accessories from their site and bring them with me on my next trip, et voila! Perfect occasion for our romantic weekend break.

The Hamptons – known for it’s lavish lifestyle, amazing seafood & beautiful beaches is a series of towns that mostly caters to New York’s Elite (think the best of New York shopping & dining under the guise of a sweet town lined with white-washed storefronts) but along the stretch of West Hamptons to the most easternly point of Montauk, theres something for everyone to enjoy. It’s been two years since I’ve been myself & thought Cathal ought to experience it too since it’s so different from life in the city.

We set off early on a beautiful Saturday in our rented car & stayed just outside of the Hamptons. Theres no shortage of beaches there and following the coastal route we stopped off at an amazing beach almost right away (where we shot the first look). Sometimes you don’t know you need a break until you feel the soft Long Island sand between your toes instead of pounding harsh pavements..

On day one I wore a piece I was really excited to receive, a beautiful floaty white dress that has my answer to humid summer written all over it. I love dresses like this that you can just throw on as an easy-dress or as a beach coverup, just effortless. This two-tone hat (my favourite that I own now) tied together perfectly with the dress & this very chic version of a summery beach-bag. Round & made of jute/straw material, Accessorize nailed my favourite trends on this one! After some classic Americana beachside food consisting of ‘fries & soda’ and some fantastically cheesy live music, I popped on this vibrant one-shoulder assymetric yellow bikini set & used my floral silk scarf (also a very cute bag handle accessory) to keep the hair out of my face for the rest of the day chilling under the afternoon sun. I accessorized with these amazing retro cat-eye sunnies, and some statement jewellery (rings, more rings, earringsbracelet, anklets). After our chill out session on the beach we checked into our alternative accomodation for the evening – an incredible Victorian era B&B built in 1865.

On day two we ventured into a different side of the bay wearing my Accessorize black one-piece swimsuit as a bodysuit styled with shorts and the same accessories, which were very easily styled with a different look. Perfect prep for zero changing faff at the beach, and I brought a classic white sarong for walking around! On this side of the bay heading towards Greenport we were in farm & vineyard country. With over forty vineyards in this relatively short stretch, the views made for a spectacular drive. What I loved about it is that almost every farm or vineyard you pass feels very inviting & warm. You can grab a chair and enjoy a glass of the vineyard’s own wine in the sunshine and like us, go strawberry picking! So simple, but such a fun little thing to do as a couple or with friends. There’s also incredible art galleries & some musuems along the way too. It really is the type of place where the New York pace slows down and you don’t really need a plan. You just happen upon fun things to do with no stresses, often the best kind of trip!

Very happy to work with Accessorize on this post styling some of my top versatile pieces from their summer collection during our Summer couple’s getaway trip. This is a brand I know well & grew up with having a mother that to this day adores it! Something tells me I’ll be living in some of these pieces this Summer…
